ABOUT

Designer Lulu Delalama, born and raised between México City and Ciudad Juárez Chihuahua, with a Bachelor of Arts, has embarked on a diverse artistic journey living and working in her native Mexico, Bangkok, Paris, Italy, Istanbul, Tokyo,  Istanbul, and Los Angeles. She started her jewelry design brand in Los Angeles in 2018. At the heart of her design philosophy lies an appreciation for the beauty of contrasts in forms found in the places that hold significance for her. This includes a hand-carved wooden motif from the roof of an ancient ryonkan, juxtaposed with the futuristic aesthetic of concrete houses in Tokyo, to the bold carvings of the Aztec empire and a modernist staircase at Barragan's Casa Pedregal in Mexico City. Lulu then transforms these observations into her unique interpretation of wearable art. She frequently partners with skilled artisans from her favorite places to bring to life exclusive pieces, including her popular Mayan jade and granite ring collection, hand carved in the Mexican Caribbean.

Lulu's initial enchantment with fine jewelry stemmed from her great grandmother's sophisticated style in 1920s colonial Mexico City. The long double pearl necklace, bespoke jewelry with antique diamonds, emeralds and sapphires, brought from Europe by boat by her husband. Lulu's immersion in her great grandmother's jewels at home became a cornerstone in shaping her passion for jewelry. Additionally, Lulu's passion for forms and art derives from her father —an architect that was involved in the modernist architecture period in Mexico City under his mentor and good friend, the famous architect Antonio Attolini Lack.

She is an avid collector of fine art and decorative arts.

ART AS AN EXTENSION OF THE BODY. PIECES THAT EMPOWER THE WEARER.

The scale, texture, and weight of each jewelry design is intricately shaped by their connection to the body, transforming each piece into a seamless extension of oneself while empowering the wearer. Lulu’s pieces are characterized by its substantial weight in precious solid gold.

This substantial beauty is what makes Lulu's jewelry stand out.  Lulu adds, “A crucial aspect when designing a new piece is the fitting of the jewel, the weight, how it feels when you put it on. If the piece isn't feasible ergonomically, it won't bring empowerment to the wearer. My clients often tell me how they love the weight and feel when they wear my pieces. It feels substantial and empowering, a fine solid jewel that becomes your timeless companion, your shield, that without it you feel unprotected”.

Lulu lives in Manhattan Beach, California, and works closely with her team of two talented jewelers from Mexico at her studio in the heart of Los Angeles.
